About Us...
|
Since 2002, SPAN-DS has been working to promote awareness and implement resources that will help to reduce substance abuse in the D-S community. SPAN-DS presently includes staff members of DSHS and DSMS, representatives from local law enforcement agencies and faith communities, middle and high school youth and parents.
Above all, we recognize that our youth need positive role models who are invested in their success. People who truly care and will work with them to strengthen their own unique character, will ultimately have the greatest impact. You may just be the person to make such a difference. You are invited! Having the participation from a wide spectrum of community members is imperative to supporting our youth in their decision not to abuse drugs and/or alcohol. Our goal is for this support network to permeate the community at every level where adults and kids meet. |
Our Mission:
SPAN-DS seeks to prevent and decrease substance abuse in our communities, especially among youth. To that end we help build networks among parents, students, and other individuals that will: Heighten awareness Promote responsible behaviors Encourage strong support systems Young adults who abuse alcohol and drugs are at higher risk for academic under-achievement, significantly increase their likelihood of developing health problems, and can face severe legal consequences. Research confirms that these trends are most effectively impacted through the concerned efforts of the community at large. It is our goal to offer visible and practical community wide support in an effort to encourage individuals to choose not to abuse alcohol or drugs. |
