In the rush and flurry of the college search process little to no time is spent focusing on how parents handle the move to college and how this milestone will impact everyone in the family. We invite you to join us on April 28, 2014 at 7:00pm in Lindquist Commons for a special program specifically designed to facilitate a conversation about Transitioning to College. This program will help parents think about how to cope with the college student’s growing maturity and the new relationship that lies ahead. Our guests include:
Ellen Chagnon, Director of Guidance
Janice Kassman, spent 25 years as Dean of Students of Colby College and is currently the principal of Kassman Consulting, a company dedicated to higher education planning.
Becky Krier, a high school teacher in Rye, NY, who earned her MA form Yale University and BA from the College of the Holy Cross where she was a Resident Life Assistant for three years.
Beverly Madden, who is a Middlebury College parent, Colby College parent and Trustee Emerita. She also served as a member of the Dover Sherborn Regional School Committee, and is currently co-chair of SPAN-DS.
From their unique vantage points our guests will share perspectives for you to consider including:
How will you handle late night phone calls?
How often should you be in touch?
How do you “parent” from afar without interfering?
How do you adapt to the new face of college today?
What do you know about sex, drugs and alcohol on your student’s campus?
